Girls State Tournament Preview

The 2nd Annual Girls State Wrestling Tournament will be held Saturday March 20th at Blennerhassett Middle School with action starting at 1:00PM. There are no general admission tickets available to the public. The High School division is up in numbers with 49 girls registered. The Middle School has 13 entries.
Musselman is favored to defend their title from last year with 12 wrestlers entered. They will be pressed by East Hardy eight grapplers. Blennerhassett is favored in the Middle School division with four wrestlers. No other middle school has multiple entrys. Last year's Middle School champion Huntington has no entrys this year.
Individually six High School wrestlers and two Middle School wrestlers look for repeat titles with last year's outstanding wrestler Zoey Salmons of Cabell Midland leading the charge. She is joined by teammate Loralei Smith, St. Albans' Caitlyn Ash, East Hardy's Sierra Marie Miller, Greenbrier East's Micah Fisher and Poca's Chenoa Taylor as defending champions. Blennerhassett's Anniya Powell and Brooklin Whitehead look to repeat as champions in the Middle School division.
This year's tournament will use the Madison Round Robin format with students being put in groups of four to six wrestlers of similiar weights. Brackets will be drawn and posted by Monday evening March 15th.
