AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
Seen a couple of twitter posts stating WVSSAC ruled weight classes 145, 152, and 170 in AAA not going to be wrestled this weekend.
Anyone have more info?

Yes, that was announced at the Civic Center. No reason has been given. It is reported that these weights will be wrestled at a later date, but I have no information in that regard.

That's gonna be rough on any of them that play baseball, or track and field.

It will take a 2 day event to wrestle these classes unless the procedures are changed in some way. A first round loser who wrestles back through consos to the semis and loses could not wrestle the 5th place match in a 1 day event as that would be his 6th match of the day. I feel nothing but compassion for these 48 wrestlers missing the experience of the tournament.

And it's going to hold up team standings also if they have to wrestle these weight classes at a later date.

Or lacrosse..
Re: AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
Biggest can of worms that has ever been opened. Boys sent home for not passing skin test others get to wait how fair is that. Decisions being made by people who have no idea about wrestling at all.
Re: AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
The kids in these weight classes must havre practiced all by there selves.
Re: AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
Any idea when and where they will wrestle these weight classes
Re: AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
I was thinking that about practicing by themselves too.
When is the virginia beach tournament?

I feel bad for all of them, but especially the ones that make it to the finals, there's something special about Saturday night that they're gonna miss out on

From the Editor:
Well, it seems that the wheels are truly trying to fall off the wagon.
The forum EXPLODED yesterday morning. Much rumor, much rancor, some fact, some fiction.
I turned off the forum for a time before I left for Huntington.
It is currently set such that all posts require approval before being published.
I see no utility in publishing insults. I see no utility in promoting misinformation and speculation.
From what I glean from newspaper reports (see other post), this was a WVSSAC decision. The Intelligencer reports that a court ruling was upheld (attorneys must have been involved), and many of the sentiments expressed by readers are reflected in quotes from these articles.
I shall link to what the newspapers report - they are the professionals.
Many are upset with me. I have been accused of being parcel to some conspiracy, and condemned for censorship. Bring it on.
However, this isn't about me or WV-Mat - it is about our student athletes and their families who have been wrenched about, altered travel plans, expense, disruptions, and other difficulties too numerous to mention.
It occurs to me that we will just have to get through this...

DIRECT QUOTE BELOW - From the wrestling officials packet on the WVSSAC website... just going to leave this here for others to view.... I think this is pretty clear my self but what do i know.. im just a guy named crochog.
"TO: Wrestling Coaches and Wrestling Officials
FROM: Wayne Ryan, Assistant Executive Director
DATE: September 2016
SUBJECT: Skin Infections Awareness
It is the responsibility of wrestling coaches and officials to ensure that no wrestler participates
while suffering from a skin infection/communicable disease. The health and well
being of all participants must be a primary concern.
The WVSSAC has provided all wrestling coaches and officials with a copy of Dr. B.J. Anderson
The Mat Doc Skin Infection Pocket Reference. This reference guide helps wrestling
personnel evaluate skin infections. Please contact the WVSSAC office if you need a replacement
copy.
The Communicable Skin Disease Form is required for any wrestler desiring to return to
competition after having a communicable skin disease or is suspected of having a communicable
skin disease or any other condition that makes participation appear inadvisable. This
form must be completed in its entirety and signed by a physician before an official or coach
allows an athlete to participate with a skin condition. This procedure refers to practice and
all competition.
If there is any doubt or question regarding a skin condition, the athlete must be removed
from practice/competition until cleared by a physician.
When in doubt, sit them out!"

As Mr. Miller said, this was a WVSSAC decision and Rob Archer, who was very close to the situation, was quoted in the paper as stating "this is the best thing they could've done."
Now we all have to live by the decision. I think the silver lining to this decision is that no wrestler will be held out for precautionary reasons.

Re: AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
5 1/2 hour drive. If it is held again in Huntington it will be my 4th trip south for wrestling. I coach at Charles Town and make the trip to WSAZ, made an extra trip to McKinley so my kids could get a good seeding at WSAZ, this trip which could have been prevented if the WSSAC took action sooner.
How many kids will actually be able to come back? Will each bracket have 16? Most likely not, maybe 6 to 10? So they could have disqualified as needed and continued like most other states. 6 to 10 now or 6 to 10 later.

Re: AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
Yesterday morning several boys were told that they would not be able to wrestle at the state tournament just because they wrestled someone with the "skin issue" at the regional tournament. They did not have a skin issue themselves but because they could have it and not had an outbreak yet they were told they could not wrestle at the state tournament. Mind you they didn't even have a spot on them. 2 of our boys that were told the day of the tournament that they could not wrestle are seniors and it's their last chance at placing at the state tournament. They didn't do anything wrong. They weren't irresponsible. I'm glad they made the decision to at least postpone their weight class if they were going to punish them for something they didn't even have.
Re: AAA 145, 152, 170 WHAT?
What happens if the kids who are not showing signs now start showing signs of herpes when the weight classes get rescheduled? Are they going to reschedule again to be fair to those kids or just tell them too bad? Just a thought
