AA/A 120 State Pairings

First of all, the state pairings look great except I must question AA/A 120.
WVMat has had Wood of Point Pleasant as #1 all season.
WVMat has had Hess of North Marion #2 in 5 out of the 6 polls and for the past 5 weeks straight.
Both were regional champions. Both are undefeated in WV AA/A.
Currently, these two grapplers are on course for a SEMI-final showdown and not a finals match.
Plenty of time to review before the state tournament.

How did Nichols and Purdue on the same side? Purdue won Region 3 and Nichole Region 1. Why are they on the same side?

I do not know the answer. However, Nichols did lose 13 to 7 to Taylor of Hoover on December 17th at the Jason Eades Memorial at Point Pleasant. This muddies the waters enough to not make Nichols the clear cut #2.

Maybe the latest rankings will shed some light. I can’t believe you were not consulted on this.

If you ranked the regional champs it’s clear that Perdue and Nichols should be on different sides. They should’ve put Taylor and Nichols on the same side.

I can see why Hess, Wood, and Lilly were a toss up. Lilly wrestled Hess and lost by major but Lilly never wrestled Hess to my knowledge.

Seems like the coaches committee does what they want and what benefits them at times.

I can see why Hess and Wood would be separated. But how do the pairings come out on Sunday with them on the same side and then get changed Monday?

It looks like the bracket has been revised. Did you talk to the committee? A job well done. Now we can. Wrestle.

A vast conspiracy no doubt

The #1 and #2 ranked wrestlers were moved out of the same half of the bracket. That is a great change from years past. That should be the end of it. Hess is clearly the #2 wrestler of the remaining kids. I've watched everyone in the top 5 several times this year other than Wood. Should make for an exciting championship match for whoever gets there.

So if 1 and 2 were moved to separate sides of the bracket, then why is Spitznogle and Blessing on the same side at 138? Make no sense at all.

The seperating of a clear #1 and #2 was not based on the rankings seen on this site. There was a group of AA/A coaches who met on 2/19 and apparently it was felt there was not either enough of a seperation of presumably the two wrestlers you mentioned and most likely Curran of Doddridge County and so the originl pill draw was used, so it was left to chance and not human bias. I don't have enough knowledge of the wrestlers involved and so I am not giving an opinion, just clarifying what I understood of the process.
