4-0 in the 1st round
0-4 in the 2nd round
Hope we have a 4-0 3rd round today

125 & 133 had really tough draws against Iowa
165 lost to his opponent by 3 earlier in the year and by 6 this time
197 seems to be snakebitten by one guy, disappointed for him but never disappointed in him.

What will it actually take for WVU to get better... much better. Say finish in top 5 ?

Your lack of understanding how hard to be a top 5 team is almost as amazing as it is to be a top 5 team. PS keep that negative thought, you won’t get the PIAA kids

From 2010 to present: PSU, Iowa and Cornell are the ONLY teams to finish in the top 10 EVERY year(I am confident Cornell would have if Ivies were allowed this year).  Iowa is the ONLY team to finish in the TOP 5 EVERY season.
PSU-9,1,1,1,1,6,1,1,1,1,Covid,2  Average 25/11=  2.272 place
Iowa-1,3,3,4,4,2,5,4,3,4,Covid,1  Average 34/11= 3.09 place
OkState-6,4,6,2,3,7,2,3,13,3, Covid,3  Average 52/11=4.727 place
Cornell-2,2,4,5,7,5,7,8,7,7,Covid,DNP  Average 54/10=5.4 place
tOSU-8,29,5,6,6,1,3,2,2,2,Covid,9  Average=73/11=6.636 place
Minn-7,7,2,3,2,8, 17,7, 17,8,Covid,7 Average 85/11=7.727 place
Mizz-10,17,26,7,14,4,6,5,6,6,Covid,7  Average=108/11  9.818 place

My posting results and saying that I hope we go 4-0 in the third round was negative? Or was it when another guy asked what it would take to get into the top five? That was negative? What exactly hurt your feelings?

Won’t get the PIAA kids? When our coaches recruit a kid it seems they get them.

Want to talk about the class of 2020 WVU recruits? I think the WV recruit was wrestling long after the PIAA recruits were wearing street shoes last weekend. Take away old dominion canceling its program and a fortunate grab from PITT via the transfer portal and we only have two make it to NCAA and both are WV natives.
That’s not to say we don’t need or want PIAA kids but the insinuation that my posting results and rooting for the team or a WVU fan asking what it takes to get into the top 5 will scare away Pennsylvania recruits is kooky cookie.

TOP 5 will require 70-80 points. We are in the right conference to qualify a lot of the team. We’re young this year and with 2022 being a do-over we’ll be young again. We are years away from being top 5 but closer than we think from being top 15.

WVU is becoming a sticky topic. A more realistic goal would be for the team to get into the top 6 in the Big 12.

Of the starting 10, who is coming back?

It can be done.

In 21 seasons at Edinboro, Coach Flynn led the Fighting Scots to five top-10 finishes at the NCAA Tournament, 14 top-20 finishes and 18 top-25 finishes.

West Virginia in the Big 12 has to be an easier place to recruit than Edinboro.

I think his comments were directed to Doyablameme.

When was the last time WVU went undefeated in the first round (with multiple qualifiers) of the NCAAs? With most being the lower seed to advance.

Perhaps already signs of improvement?

Regarding the 2020 / 2021 season:

40% of the varsity were West Virginia kids. 4 out of 10.

50% of the NCAA qualifiers were West Virginia kids. Hall and Adams. Both were nationally ranked coming out of high school.

50% of the other NCAA qualifiers were transfers from other schools. WVU wasn't their first pick.

75% of the NCAA qualifiers were also FIRST year wrestlers at WVU. This tells me that these wrestlers' success was more based on what they had done before coming to WVU. If their success was more WVU related, then I would expect more progress from the other six varsity wrestlers that did not qualify.

100% of the All Americans were transfers. One wrestler.

100% of the All Americans were in their first season at WVU. One wrestler.

The numbers above paint the story that WVU's success is based more on:

1. Getting the best the state of West Virginia has to offer.

2. Attract transfers from other D1 programs.

3. The numbers do not show that the more years one is at WVU, the better they get. I hope this is not true.

These numbers are preliminary. I am not forming opinions good or bad about WVU's team. But the numbers are the numbers. There is much more "number influencing" factors going on behind the scenes that none of us know about.

We could go back over the past 3 to 5 years and list the following by year:

1. Number of NCAA qualifiers.
2. Number of All Americans.
3. Number of Big 12 place winners.
4. Team standing in the Big 12 tournament.

How much progress has been made?
