Re: State Tournament Bracket Change
Does that mean a 5th place finisher can still get into the bracket if someone drops out? Up to this point we had been told no, that the brackets were set, its a continuation of the tournament they already weighed in for, and that if someone were to drop out it would be a scratch and no one would replace them and no one would bump to their spot.
I am not arguing against someone filling the void, or wrestlers bumping to their spot. But, it does contradict what we were previously told by WVSSAC officials. There are 5th placers out there who would have been practicing all this time if they thought they had a shot at still getting into the bracket. Does this now mean we should bring our 5th place wrestler in case someone in his weight cannot wrestle?

Not a bye. It says Default. So I assume it will be scored same as a pin which will give bonus points to those advancing.
Re: State Tournament Bracket Change
Sad!
Hope some changes happen to improve all of this years struggles; REGIONAL REALIGNMENTS; JVs; and this state tourney fiasco!

A default, not a bye. Two wrestlers will not be able to attend due to WVSSAC making a colossal mistake.
Every Region qualified 4 wrestlers to the state tournament at every weight.
Your prophecy has not been fulfilled, no matter how you try to manipulate the facts to make it seem that way.
Even if there was a system in place for using wild cards to fill empty slots, it would not help this situation, since they were not set to compete at the original state tournament and did not weigh in.

Re: State Tournament Bracket Change
unless its a personal thing that needs to be respected, then why are the 2 wrestlers unable to attend? Might it be that they are baseball/track first athletes (who have legit college options) and have wisely chosen to move onto those sports? Might it be that they suffered an injury that they didn't have at the time of the State Tournament, but now that injury is keeping them from being able to wrestle this weekend in this state tourney? Might it be that they are in some sort of school academic function that is scheduled for this week and that that function takes precedence over athletics? Might it be that those wrestlers had already scheduled college campus visits for the 13th and 14th? I just really hope that while some were trying to protect the state tournament experience for a few, that it didn't blocked a state tournament experience from a wrestler who was ready to go at the end of February.greencrush wrote:Bearhugger wrote:So before the state tournament ended, we do have a bye.

Re: State Tournament Bracket Change
I would hope wisdom would rule out in the delay brackets and allow the fifth place wrestlers an opportunity to move into the tournament. There is still time.
Anyone who was ruled ineligible two weeks ago would still be ineligible, but with the extension, it should extend the eligibility of regional fifth and sixth placers to move into empty slots.
Thanks - Brent

Re: State Tournament Bracket Change
Brent that is a long time for a 5th place kid to go without being in a room and then get the call as late as last week.

The 5th place wrestler should have been given a chance. Somebody should have asked him. Nobody knows what the kid has been doing. There are many kids still working out for NHSCA and many other tournaments.
There is no schedule available as to when the finals are. This, along with not trying to fill these two scratches just tells me that this part 2 state tournament is being treated as "lets just get it over with".
