I know it isn't a huge difference but there is a difference in team points between second and third... isn't there?

No, there's really not much difference. The difference in advancement points is only 3 points (12 vs. 9). The key is bonus points.

In 2013, there was a 3rd-place finisher in AAA who lost in the semis by decision to the eventual champion, but won his other four matches by pin (each pin accounts for 2 additional points). Thanks to those 8 bonus points, he scored as many team points as three runners-up and outscored nine other runners-up (outscoring one by four points, which in a tight team race could be huge). And he also happened to outscore the runner-up in his weight class by 1 point.

Definitely seed them. It’d make upsets even better. The two best kids should in theory have a chance to meet in the finals. No idea who you would have rank them tho.

Those two clearly won their first two matches and met for a barnburner semifinal match. Henderson won and went on and pinned in the finals. Layman fought back and finished third. Henderson pinned everybody except Layman, which was a decision win.

Furthermore, the pill placing returning state champions in the semifinals has been the biggest challenge to the pill in the past.

Here is the solution. Use the pill. If it places returning state champions against each other before the finals, select a different pill only for that weight class. In addition, this should only be considered if both returning state champions WIN their region and have not had head to head matches previously in the given season. Your logic is sound. However, this was the worst season in probably 10-20 years to analyze rankings in relation to final state placement. With the short season and no big bracketed tournaments, it was difficult to rank everybody.

I'm just asking, would a seeding committee/coaches meeting for seeding actually ever use a ranking by an unknown number of unknown individuals. Is this/has this ever been used as criteria at seeding meeting? Again, just asking because I've never been in one.

13 unranked wrestlers placed in the top 6 with Roy of Saint Albans at 220 placing the highest at 3rd place. The final rankings comparison were a bit skewed by Bridgeport not being allowed to participate in the tourney. Eight of the 14 wrestlers who were ranked #1 won the state championship

Your logic is sound. However, this was the worst season in probably 10-20 years to analyze rankings in relation to final state placement. With the short season and no big bracketed tournaments, it was difficult to rank everybody.
