AAA State parity, part 2

State parity
I received a private message from a big wrestling fan this past weekend while working Jr. States on state placing by regions. I just got a chance to look at it in some detail during my lunch break today. A couple of things jumped out at me.
1 -The majority (9) of the fourteen weight classes had placers from each of the four regions. The five weight classes that was not represented by a region were: 120 reg 2; 145 reg 3; 170 reg 2; 195 reg 1; and 285 reg 2.
With that being said, Region Four led the way placing in all 14 weight classes, Regions 1 and 3 placed in 13 weights and Region 2 placed in 11.
2 - No Region placed four wrestlers in any weight classes. Region 4 came the closest with three placers at 145 and 195, and Region 1 had three placers at 106. No where else was there more than two placers from a Region.
With that being said, we can confidently say that no fifth place regional finisher was left at home unfairly. In years past you would see four placers in a weight from the same region and wondered how the fifth place regional finisher would have done (who was ranked in the top ten poll).
This was also discussed last night at our wrap up meeting from Jr. States, the differences between Youth and Jr. States. Youth states is a regional qualifying tournament where some quality wrestlers may not have an opportunity to wrestle in the state tournament. Jr. States is an open tournament which welcomes all eligible wrestlers in the state no matter how they fair in their area.

To conclude, here is the summary of the regional placement at the state tournament from the big fan. 25% is par.

Region 1 - 20, 24% below par
Region 2 - 15, 18% below par

In fairness to Region 1, the loss of the Bridgeport wrestlers from their mix may have lowered their percentages in the results at the state tournament.

I sat down after Brent's original "AAA Regional Parity" thread and crunched some numbers, but didn't get a chance to post them until now.

My numbers are a little off from those posted above, but I could be wrong.
