Which Counties Allow 6th-Grade Wrestlers?

Hello all,

Hancock County is one of the few counties in WV that does not allow 6th graders to participate in MS sports. I am trying to change this. In order to have the most convincing argument to present to our Board of Education, I need to know how many of our 55 counties currently do not allow 6th graders in middle school sports. Any information provided will be greatly appreciated.

Wood County allows it, I guess I was unaware that most/some counties do not.

Monongalia county allows it.

Morgan County (Warm Springs Middle) has 6th grade wrestlers.

Thank you to all who helped me sort this out. I’m still waiting to hear back from Taylor, Pleasants, and Boone Counties, but it looks like Hancock County is currently the only county in the state that doesn’t allow 6th graders to participate in any middle school sports. For anyone who may need this information going forward, there are a few exceptions.
1. Doddridge and Ritchie Counties don’t allow 6th graders to play football.
2. Tyler County doesn’t allow 6th graders to participate in sports that cut.
3. Mineral County doesn’t have school-sanctioned middle school sports. They are community based, and they allow 6th graders to participate.
