Re: Question regarding certified coaches
Because you didn't find someone listed on there doesn't mean they are not certified. I can assure you that I have taken all required courses every year for about 7 years now, plus I am just one course short of being an AIC, and I searched for myself and got a "No Results Found" response. ...

Re: Conference Tournaments
Conference tournaments are a great opportunity to see teams that you might not see otherwise. This weekend we (Braxton) saw St. Marys, Wahama, Tyler Consolidated and Wirt for the first time this season. From a competitive standpoint, seeing a wrestler at least once before regionals or states is impo...

Coach Beane 750 Dual Wins
I just wanted to pay respect to our coach at Braxton County High School. He has been coaching wrestling since 1972 and today he won his 750th dual of his coaching career. From a personal standpoint, he has been a guiding light for my son over the last four years and I could not be more thankful or a...

Re: State Tournament needs changed
Not sure how 1 class would encourage participation. I'd imagine that would severely lower the number of wrestlers around the state. So, I definitely dont think that would solve the problem I agree that it would not encourage participation and I have made that argument before. However, everyone seem...

Re: State Tournament needs changed
Just go to a single class and leave it at that. Moving teams from AA/A to AAA just relocates the problem. Instead of having byes at AAA we will have them at AA/A. Problem not solved. Re: Food for Thought.
It’s definitely not anything to do with the liability insurance. All schools in WV have the same provider, BRIM, and therefore the same coverages. I am in charge of that insurance for a BOE, so I know that as a fact. Most teams can not afford to bus them there. It’s expensive. However, you can get ...

Re: Food for Thought.
It is not as easy as a coach just deciding the team is going out of state. There are other deciding factors. 1. Some schools simply will not allow athletic teams to travel across the state border. This can be because of a county policy or it can be because of restrictions placed by their liability i...

Another issue, how is coach Jeremy Hart, or one of the smartest men I know in the sport of wrestling, Dave Hart, Bonecutter, (defending coach of the year) Anthony Regalbutto, Coach Smith from South, not on this board? Is this an elected committee? That’s 2 Dutton award winners that I know for a fac...

Re: New State Tournament format
My concern is this. There is no such thing as perfectly identifying the top 2 "ranked" wrestlers prior to states with a ranking system. 2019's AA/A 160 is a prime example of this. Feb 8 rankings: 1st Whiting, 2nd Gibson, 3rd Cruickshanks Feb 15 rankings: 1st Whiting, 2nd Cruickshanks, 3rd...

Re: New State Tournament format
I don't think the above example is actually the issue. If Cruickshanks beat Gibson at the regionals, with that being the most recent event before the state, then heading into the state Cruickshanks had the right to be ranked ahead of him. Rankings are merely what they are and outcomes neither prove...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition
1. If they go to a 32 man bracket then the exact same number of kids qualify for the state tournament. Either switch to 8 regions and top 4 or top 8 from 4 regions. really doesn't matter. So there would be no decrease in the number of qualifiers. 2. When a schools population drops below a certain n...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition
The bigger picture is this. Most of this discussion is concerning AAA which only has one region with 8 teams and 3 with 7 teams. While AA/A has 15, 2x 16 and 17 teams in their regions. I don't see any balance here. Either split AA/A down and balance the number of schools or go to a single class tou...

And how does that fix anything. If we can't fill two 16 man brackets then we can't fill a single 32 man bracket.
