I have to agree the officiating was very good. Those 4 guys went nonstop all day. 4 mats 4 refs no rotation or breaks. Hats off to them.

Re: Regionals this weekend
Yes Region II did allow wrestlers to move up in weight when it was stated that was not allowed. Although they did not combine weight classes. The regions do need reclassified. Region II had 364 participants from what I heard while some of the others had just over 200. This weekend will tell as I be...

Ref at St Albans high youth championship
So what’s being done about the ref that threw out about 10 people Sunday?? I was at the league each week and there were not any issues until this guy showed up at the championship tournament. I can say for sure he threw out a couple people who were innocent bystanders of an altercation between a cou...

Re: WVYWA Regions
4 regions and top 6 qualify. This makes 24. Still works better than the current 6 region concept with very small brackets. I like it. All this will do is make the regional tournaments be bigger but you still have the same amount of kids at states. For example If 6 regions have a weight class with 3...

Re: Issue today at WVYWA Region 1
I post this in hopes that their will be corrective action by the WVYWA such that other children in this organization will not be unfairly treated or affected by regional chairs not following their own rules. To start, my son is an experienced wrestler who has wrestled for a peewee team for years, b...

Re: WVYWA Regions
I plan on volunteering time to the WVYWA and one of the first things I want to discuss is the current number of regions. We will see how many wrestlers attend tomorrow but it was pretty scarce in just about every weight class, today. Round Robins and Two out Threes was the bracket norm at region 5....

Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
Based on all the comments here nearly 100% feel kids should be wrestling by their age not the grade they are in. I hope the region chairs listen to everyone. Seems like a pretty simple solution 12 is 12 so wrestle 11-12. You can still allow some one to wrestle up if they want. 4u 6u 8u 10u 12u 15u S...

Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
Sounds like a few people just want a cheap title without having to work for it I think most people with integrity will enter where they(kids and parents) feel is best for them. I don't think the ones who can hang and have a ligit chance with the 13-15 year olds are going to enter the 11-12 group al...

Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
I witnessed this with several wrestlers this past weekend at Jr. States. I know there was a 13-15 and 11-12 age group and you had to wrestle your age... but the 12 year olds that I know of who wrestle Middle School Varsity during the season had a distinct advantage over the other kids in their weig...

Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
Not all 7 th grade 12 year olds are varsity. Mostly the issue is maturity and growth between 12 and 14-15 year olds. Once the go to high school you still have an age difference but the development of a 9th grader is closer to the upper classmen than it is in middle school.

Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
If you have a wrestler that is 12 years old and in the 7th Grade, then why would you want your wrestler to compete down? Why not have your wrestler compete against other wrestlers that are at least in the same grade or up? Wouldn't this benefit your wrestler in middle school and into high school? W...

My 11 yo 6th grader will also be wrestling the middle school division. Only because he did wrestle middle school this year and we did not make it to any qualifiers. So the only way he can compete in the regional tournament is as a middle school entry. There is a qualifier this weekend in Lewis coun...

I believe you may need to check on the 11 ye old being allowed to wrestle middle school anyway. I believe the bylaws say you must wrestle in you correct division.

Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
To justwrestlewv. I don't have a kid in this situation. First it is about the kids so by using your logic an 11 yr old could be wrestling a 14 or even 15 year old. So that logic says a 5 yr old should wrestle a 9 yr old. We could also say an 80 pound kid in 1st grade should wrestle an 80 pound 5th g...

Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
Apparently the regional chairs voted on it so si it has been changed. Everyone needs to spread the word and get to the Wvywa chairs and get them to put it back the way it should be. Let the kids choose if the want to be in 11-12 or middle school.
