2020-2021 Preview- AAA grouped rankings

Postby beachbum1234 » Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:49 pm

Hope we have a season.

Yes it is too early for this kind of crap but let's have some fun with it anyway.

Just guessed about future weights based on past growth. So if your guy or girl isn't in the right category I guess you could just comment. I also added some freshman I learned about through the forum. I am sure there are plenty more you could add. Also ties went to higher weights and older wrestlers.

Feel free to take the idea and make it your own.

What does it matter how many times you’ve looked at it?

It’s a different way of looking at things.

1. There’s usually a “preseason” ranking system and there’s half of the people complaining that “it’s too early”, “you don’t know where they’ll end up weight class wise”, etc. I just lumped them together to avoid some of those complaints.

By lumping weight classes together you can get a view of what’s to come even if it’s a little vague.

2. Its fun to think about and look forward to next season. Someone posted matches to look forward to next season as a different thread. This may be able give others some information so they can see some other possible Big matches. I.e. Mitchell Quiocho which was an awesome match last season.

3. Obviously the wrestlers decide everything, but if you check above you may see some different names that may not get mentioned and now there’s something to go off of in the future.

4. If you don’t dig it I get it. It’s early. I’m bored sometimes. I enjoy the sport and I think WV wrestling is growing. I don’t mean any offense to anyone or any wrestler.

5. It’s just information and words that mean nothing. Hopefully the wrestlers get the opportunity to prove what I wrote correct or false.

Hope I could answer any questions you had. Was just wasting time and having a little fun with it.

Wow. Not having Gage Wright in your top 3 lb for lb is a bold prediction. Some would say comical.

He’s the national champ freshman right? May have missed him.

You think he’s top 3? I don’t know. He may be. I’ve never seen him wrestle. I’ve also never claimed to be a wv wrestling expert. Maybe if it’s so comical you can put together you’re own which would be more informative.

I agree with my first cousin truesouthfaninhuntington about not understanding your post and I read it ten times. As far as Gage Wright goes, he was a 3 time county chapion and a 3 time WSAZ champion. he's also been a few national champions. He has a very good chance of being a 4 time champion. You need to go to the middle school scores and you see all his match results.

I'm not sure I understand the extreme confusion being expressed here. It's not rocket science. Although the listing is somewhat unorthodox and it's not trying to be specifically helpful in a minute fashion, Beachbum1234 explained his reasoning. The top returning wrestlers in the groupings of 2 or 3 weight class brackets are listed. Generally it appears the heavier champions in the groupings are listed first and then on down (except at 220-285). So the champion at 113 is listed ahead of the champion at 106. In some cases kids were moved up to the next weight class if it was expected for them to move up based on growth, for example: Easton of South up from 120 lb to the next grouping up, 126-132-138 and Buckalew of South up from 195 lb to the 220-285 grouping. If he knew of freshmen coming in with some "credentials" he listed them. This was obviously being done in this fashion as it is really impossible at this point to accurately know what weight class anyone is actually going to be at, so he grouped them to sort of "hedge his bets". I'm don't think that the real purpose was to actually put much emphasis on the strict order of placement, but more of a who's who listing at this time. He said to feel free to put your two cents worth in and I don't see any reason to offer ridicule. The key thing is he gave some early recognition to some high school kids and maybe the incentive to others to prove their names belong somewhere in these lists. Hopefully they'll get the chance to do so.

Now, since I'm on here I'll give my 2 cents on the pound for pound rankings. I would move Michael Dolan up to at least 3rd. I would always tend to list Tachoir of Martinsburg just one spot behind Dolan (even on the pound for pound) and I would move Roberts of South up just behind Tachoir. As far as Gage Wright (and I'll admit I have only seen him wrestle down at the Super 32 against some very stiff competition) the question might be if Stevie Mitchell stays at 145 lbs as a senior and with his overall athleticism, can Gage handle the age difference and maturity difference between the two? Quiocho has been quick enough to counter Mitchell's explosiveness but if the match-up occurs we'll have to see if Gage can. This assessment is meant to be complementary to all the wrestlers involved.

I saw a picture of Mitchell with Brothers and another Park wrestler a couple of days ago and it looked like Mitchell had put about 25 p pounds of muscle on. He looked bigger than the other two wrestlers. The football roster has him at 175 but he looked bigger than that in the picture I saw. There's no way he will wrestle at 145. I would say 170 or 182.

I read your rankings over a week ago and your intent was very clear to me. I got it on the first pass. I didn't even need to roll up my sleeves.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

From the list above, they have 9 on it and are a little sparse in the middle weights. Any info on the newcomers and their projected weights?
