I know injuries have hurt them but this year is pretty dang disappointing.
Still a giant hole at 133 that wasn’t addressed from last year.
Upperclassmen getting worse. Titus is terrible. If he can’t do a jonesy then he has nothing. Wolfgram is hasn’t improved. Hillegas I know is wrestling out if his weight but he’s struggling mightily. Robin struggling. Conley doesn’t appear to be the guy they thought he’d be three years ago. This team is just not very good.
To top it off their best recruits are having pretty average redshirt years.
With Hall being the lone bright spot and Jett if he has a good weight cut lol.
With Hall gone next year tho this team is going to be rough. Watters will be highly sought after in the portal and the money those guys are getting is wvu willing to pay?
I’ve been a fan of Coach Flynn but this roster just isn’t very good. Hopefully things get turned around but it looks like a couple very tough years are ahead. If we can’t recruit high school kids then we have to hit the portal hard but once again you have to pay to play and does wvu have any money to spend on wrestling?
I really hope Flynn hires Hall as an assistant coach. We need some young new blood in there.
Disappointing year
Re: Disappointing year
I have faith in coach Flynn. I do not have faith in their assistant coaches assistant coaches. Remember Nate Carr and Zeke Jones. Coach needs quality assistant coaches. Prove me I’m wrong.
Re: Disappointing year
They definitely need a new bigger coach. Mohamed is barely a 184 himself. 2 seasons ago Robins, Cooley, and Wolfgram all placed at Big 12s, and qualified for nationals. They all regressed last season and into this season. Hopefully the same thing doesn’t happen to Lawrence.
Re: Disappointing year
I have quite the opposite view of last nights results. Yes Barraclough got in deep(which almost never happens to PH) and scored a last second TD to lose 5-2.
Better it happens now IMO. I thought the rest of the lineup was improved with only 1 disappointing loss. Let's Go Mountaineers!

Re: Disappointing year
Disappointing? Seems a bit harsh. Our ranking in the preseason was #19 with a healthy Ty Watters. Currently, we are ranked #20 with 4 wrestlers ranked. It might not have been pretty. But we have found ways to gut out wins. No Watters. No Dowling for most of his career. Hillegas has not been the same since his concussion last year. Cooley decides to hang it up. Wolfgram gets hurt late. Both bigs have been inconsistent last 2 years. I think the coaches have done a solid job this year navigating the lineups. Some of these were unforeseen. It has been discussed enough about how this program needs financial support. If anybody on this site not contributing to WVRTC, you should. It can only help our youth thru camps, summer workout series, etc. Plus it will help with attracting talent, upgrades to facilities, maybe a 2nd volunteer coach. The University is only going to do so much. It is up to us to take it to the next level.

also think Flynn is a hell of a coach. The assistants are meh and so is the recruiting.
I just looks at what Virginia tech and nc state are able to do and how they are able to recruit year after year and I think why can’t that be us? Northern Iowa is another school that does great with little resources.
Re: Disappointing year
We need McAfee to spread some of that million dollar NIL money the wrestling teams way, I think this year is disappointing in the inj sense but not in results ..losing Ty was a major major blow , Cooley walking away was tough bc bush spent all that time slimming his body down to be an 184 and he’s rly undersized , I think Wolf should’ve hung it up awhile ago anyway he seemed like he had a case of the HEW last year and wasn’t looking any better this season anyway..I agree Robin and Titus and are regressing and 133 seems to be a black hole every season but it hasn’t been all negative
Hall may have lost the other night but if he can win the rematch at big 12s he ll be the 3 seed at NCAAs and position himself to atleast be a semi finalist at ncaa and a finalist if he can knock off Caliendo
Jett has been great since he dropped to 125 and we now get another year of him bc of the ncaa Juco ruling
Sasha looks like he has some promise long term and I still have faith Conley is the real deal
This freshman class is good , mostly upper weights so they needed this year to adjust but Lawerence , Taylor and hogan all should have bright futures
Only way I’d consider this disappointing is if we lose Watters , Iowa came knocking for him last year and they lose both their 149 and 157 so you best believe those boosters will come back for him again this off season, I hope he’s a loyal guy bc they gave Parco and teemer 500k plus an apartment each and that was just for one season , we can’t compete with them financially
Also completely agree I think we need another big man coach nothing against the current staff but I think we need someone else to work with Conley,Taylor, hogan and Rune to help them make that jump to the next level

Re: Disappointing year
A lot of good points being made. I don't necessarily agree with the argument about the assistant coaches. I think Cliff and Mitchell do a fine job and Mitchell is good for recruiting. Hopefully Jett can stay laser focused on his weight and conditioning after figuring out that he belongs at 125. Jordan Titus is definitely not having a good season, but I have faith he can turn it out around. Brody is having a good year. He started off a little slow but since the Cliff Keen tourney, his losses have been against quality opponents and have been very close except for the Hamiti loss. Dennis Robin is who he is. He is a good wrestler but just is not flashy whatsoever. He just had two bad losses but I am not worried about either of them.
Money is the biggest problem that faces this program. The University won't add another position to the staff, which would allow them to bring another coach who could a recruiting coordinator. This would great place to add the HWT coach that everyone wants. And finally, the NIL crap is hurting every program that is not in the Top 10. These programs all have millionaires and billionaires supporting them and giving huge amounts of money. WVU has to raise their money one dollar at a time, and they do need to be thrifty on where it is spent. This automatically puts them behind the eight ball, but all in all I am satisfied with the job Coach Flynn is doing. This team is not great but it is a good team.
