OLIVET, Mich. – The Otterbein wrestling team picked up a pair of victories Saturday afternoon at the Olivet College Duals, taking two of three matches and improving to 7-1 on the season.
The Cardinals will regroup over Thanksgiving break and then be back in action come December 3, traveling to test their fate at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
Otterbein got off to a hot start in Saturday's first match against Trine University, opening an early 12-0 lead and coasting to a lopsided 37-4 triumph. Freshman Jackson Lakso, the reigning Ohio Athletic Conference 'Wrestler of the Week,' tallied a pin at 125 pounds before classmate Tyler Norris (133 lbs.) followed with a fall of his own. Freshman Braden Neuberger (174 lbs.) also pinned his opponent while Drew Kasper (197 lbs.) posted a major decision.
The Cards absorbed their first loss of the season in the middle contest, falling behind early against the host Comets and ultimately suffering a 30-9 defeat. Kasper earned a decision while freshman Corbin Bunsold, at 184 pounds, was able to secure a nice pin.
Otterbein quickly regrouped to culminate the day with one more victory, flying past Henry Ford College by a score of 41-6 behind pins from Norris, Neuberger, Bunsold and Donny Didion (165 lbs.). Freshman Willy Plaisir notched a technical fall at 157 pounds while Lakso, Cortez Gainey (149 lbs.) and Gage Archer (285 lbs.) also hit the win column. Bunsold finished a perfect 3-0 on the day.
Full box scores and more match details will be posted as soon as they become available.
Following the Ohio Northern Invitational, the Cardinals will travel to Greenvile, Pa. for a dual meet with Thiel College on December 9 to finish out the 2016 calendar.
