AAA 195 - An Intriguing Weight Class

Postby Bearhugger » Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:37 pm

Upon preliminary review, the AAA 195lb weight class could be very interesting this season.

Here is who we COULD see at 195, their school and how they did at last season’s state tournament:

Fullerton/South/Q220

Loew/Wheeling Park/R195

Wood/Wheeling Park/3rd220

Fischer/Cabell Midland/4th182

Wogan/Washington/Q182

Durrah/John Marshall/6th182

Moore/John Marshall/Q195

Haynes/Ripley/4th220. Does he finally cut down????

Porter/Spring Valley/Champion220

Stanley/Spring Valley/4th195

Northcraft/Musselman/Q195

Hall/George Washington/Q195

Swisher/Hampshire/3rd195

Lambert/Hampshire/Q220

Thomas/Greenbrier East/Q182

Davis/Greenbrier East/Q220

Albrecht/Hedgesville/Q182

Smoot/Hedgesville/Q195

Sherrard/Hedgesville/Q220

Biller/Jefferson/5th195

Saunders/Hurricane/Q220

Summers/Preston/Q195

Miller/Preston/Missed the 2016-2017 season.

Armes/Riverside/Q182

Looking at that, I would say 195 and 220 should be good classes. If that many qualifiers and placers land at 195 then I would imagine a handful of them will eat donuts and go up to 220.

There is good reason to delay the donut intake until March and stay away from 220 in AAA.

What are the weight classes that may be loaded or empty in a/aa?

At a glance, 138 and 145 could be very competitive as in "up for grabs". There could be quite a few state champions and runner ups fall here.

195 and 220 could be more on the empty side. Empty as in returning state tournament place winners.

285 should always be interesting because anybody from 182 and up could jump in come regional time.

I think 160 could be tough if Humphreys is at the weight along with Pine.

I will be impressed by the kids that don’t drop to 195 because of Braxton Amos. I think a lot of people will try to avoid him. I’m not implying everyone will but there will be more than just a few.
