1972 West Virginia State Wrestling Championship
February 25-26, 1972
Nitro High School
The 1972 tournament had an eight team, follow the leader format. Only
regional champions qualified for the tournament. This was the first
year of a "true" consolation since going to an eight-man bracket.
Twelve undefeated wrestlers entered the tournament and three returning
champions participated. Forty-four High Schools participated in the
tournament.
Officials were Burton Rodgers, Parkersburg;
Steve Edwards, Charleston;
and Joe Grass, Milton.
Mat Judges were Steve White and Ed Seitz
