... on Quitting
"Character consists of what you do on the third and fourth tries."
-- James- Michener
Fear is our greatest enemy. The irony is that fear is our internal opponent; it's not part of our external environment. It's self-induced and breeds inaction, the mother of failure.
Courage is facing our fears. Those that do not confront their fears, never accomplish much in life, if anything at all. I know men like that; they have so much to offer, but are afraid to- do so.
It often seems easier to avoid situations that cause anxiety and fear. However, when we do so, it's very difficult to look into the mirror and take pride in what we see.
The following message is not a new one. Sometimes we need to revisit old passages to rejuvenate our inner strength in combating fear, which leads to giving up.
DON'T QUIT
When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road your trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down- a bit, Rest if you must, but don't you quit, Life is queer with its, twists-and turns, As everyone of us sometimes learns.
And many a failure turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out, Don't give up though the pace seems slow, You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, It's when things seem worse that you must not quit.
